Post 541 – The Ceremony for Disposal of Unserviceable Flags

The Ceremony for Disposal of Unserviceable Flags is outlined in Resolution No. 440, passed by the 19th National Convention of The American Legion in New York, Sept. 20-23, 1937. The ceremony has been an integral part of American Legion ritual since that date.

American Legion Post 541 held the ceremony for the Disposal of Unserviceable Flags on Friday, November 10. From time to time, the eNews along with S&S Sanitation and the American Legion, has asked that old, torn, faded flags be turned in to our local Legion for proper retirement. On Friday, the Legion members took those flags that had been turned in and performed the ceremony the American Legion has used since 1937. To read the full ceremony, visit www.legion.org.
