On Friday Continental High Boys Basketball team traveled to Paulding for the season opener. Paulding started the game by putting in the first 5 points. A free throw by Nick States put the Pirates on the board. A pair of 3 pointers by the Panthers was countered by a basket by Pirates Caleb Olds to make it 11-3 Panthers. A Panther 11 point run was stopped by a basket by States to make it 22-5 Panthers at the end of 1.
The Pirates opened the second quarter putting in the first 4 points by Reid Warnement and Chris Potts. A 3 by the Panthers was matched by Pirate Mitch Coleman to make it 25-12 Panthers. A 5 point Panther run was stopped by a 3 point play by Olds to make it 30-15 Panthers. The Panthers put in 7 of the last 13 points of the half to make it Panthers 37, Pirates 18 at half. The Panthers blazed the nets with eight 3 pointers in the first half while the Pirates made one.
The Panthers led in the second half scoring with a 3 pointer and ended up outscoring the Pirates 14 to 9 in the quarter as Olds, Warnement, States, and Coleman put in the Pirates points. The fourth quarter belonged to the Pirates as the Pirates outscored the Panthers by 5 to make it a 59-41 Panther final.
Caleb Olds led the Pirates in scoring as he put in 18 points while Mitch Coleman had 7. Nick States had 6 points, Tyler Brecht and Reid Warnement had 4 each, Chris Potts 2. Olds made two 3 pointers for the Pirates while Coleman made one.
Continental falls to 0-1 and traveled to Lima Temple Christian on Saturday while Paulding goes to 1-0. Paulding won the Junior Varsity game 38-13.
