Patriots 45, Lady Pirates 28

On Saturday Continental High Girls Varsity traveled to the greater Hamler area to take on Patrick Henry in nonleague action. Action did not start the Pirates way as the Patriot put in 9 of the first 12 points as a 3 free throws from Amber Logan provided the Pirates early scoring. A 4 point run by the Pirates (Alex Hoeffel free throw, Addyson Armey basket, and a Logan free throw) finished the Pirates scoring in the first at 7 while the Patriots put in 4 more to finished the quarter at Patriot 13, Pirates 7.

The Patriots opened up the second quarter scoring by hitting a free throw to expand their lead to 7. A free throw from Kailyn Alvarado was followed by a Hoeffel 3 made it a 3 point game Patriots 14, Pirates 11. A Patriot basket was followed by the Pirates putting in 3 when Hoeffel hit a free throw and Logan a basket to make it a 2 point game Patriots 16, Pirates 14. A 4 point run by the Patriots was stopped by the Pirates when Hoeffel put in 2 more to make it a 4 point game. A basket by the Patriots finished their half scoring at 22 but the Pirates put in the last points as Logan hit a 3 at the buzzer giving the Pirates 19.

The second half started with the two teams playing even in the third quarter. The Patriots expanded their lead to 7 as they put in the first 4 points of the half but that was matched by Pirates when Alvarado put in a pair of basket to make it a 3 point game at Patriots 26, Pirates 23. The teams exchanged baskets with Logan making the Pirates one. A Patriot free throw was bettered by a pair from Hoeffel to make it a 2 point game 29-27 Patriots. A Patriot basket was followed by a Hoeffel free throw to end the third quarter at Patriots 31, Pirates 28.

The fourth quarter was all Patriots at the House of Heat as they put in the first 8 points to expand their lead to 11. A pair of Hoeffel free throws stopped that run but the Pirates would only get a basket from Armey the rest of the way. Final score Patriots 45, Pirates 28.

Alex Hoeffel led all scorers with 12 points while Amber Logan followed close behind with 11. Kaitlyn Alvarado finished with 5 and Addyson Armey 4. Hoeffel and Logan both hit one 3 pointer for the Pirates.

Continental falls to 3-17 and will host Ayersville on Tuesday in a rematch of the Ayersville Holiday Tournament Semifinal that went the Pilots way. Patrick Henry improves to 7-14.
