Campers: If you are a camper, we are going to share our little secret with you…..Ottawa Metro Park. Our family loves camping at this 30 site, family-friendly, self-registering campground on the east edge of Lima. The sites are large, there are several pull-thru sites and two handicap sites. Sites 3 & 4 even has a sand volleyball court! The restroom/shower rooms are spotless. On Saturday mornings, Ranger Dan comes around and personally invites the young campers to a hands-on educational program. Our grandchildren enjoyed fishing and learning about frogs, toads, and salamanders. There are hiking trails and a jungle-gym playground that the kids love. Plenty of room to ride bicycles too. All the sites have electric and water hook-ups. On Saturday evenings at 7pm, a variety of programs are offered at the outdoor amphitheater – zoo animals, singers, musicians, historical actors, and more – something for everyone. Ottawa Metro Park, located on State Route 81, is part of the Johnny Appleseed Park District. Travel trailer or tent camping – this is one of the nicest campgrounds around and it is close to home. Drive through and check it out – I think you’ll like it too!
