Sunday, November 17, 2013 was a day to remember for two local churches. It was predicted to be a rainy day, especially in the morning hours. The Free Christian Church of God, just a few miles north of Continental had planned a groundbreaking ceremony for their new sanctuary following the 10:00 worship service. The rain stopped, the clouds parted, the sun came out just as the congregation made its way outside for the groundbreaking to celebrate the start of their new building project.
Later that same day, several miles to the south of Continental, the parishioners of St. Barbara’s Catholic Church in Cloverdale would mourn the destruction of their church by the EF2 tornado that ripped through their community.
One year later, both churches are celebrating. Free Christian Church is nearing the completion of their new sanctuary. Visit their website to see the many phases of their building project.
On Sunday, November 4, 2014, St. Barbara’s Church broke ground for a new church building. Bishop Daniel Thomas presided over the service. Current plans are for the new structure to be designed similar to the 1958 church building. Follow St. Barbara Catholic Church (Cloverdale, Ohio) on Facebook.
