Continental Schools’ January School Board Meeting Recap

The organizational meeting for the Continental School Board was held at 7:30 p.m. on January 9, 2018 in the administrative office with the regular monthly meeting following. The meeting was called to order by the “president pro-tem”, Michael Zachrich.

Treasurer Beverly Sabo administered the oath of office to Dean Bidlack, Ron Bradford, and Robin Etter.
Re-elected were Dean Bidlack, board president; and Chad Olds, vice president. Board meeting dates will continue to be held on the third Tuesday of each month with meetings beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the administrative office boardroom. Mr. Kissell was reappointed as purchasing agent and authorized to employ temporary personnel. Chad​ ​Olds​ ​was appointed as Legislative Liaison to OSBA and Ron Bradford was appointed as Student Achievement Liaison. It was approved to dispense with the reading of the “minutes” of the previous meeting. 2018 board committees were established.

Mrs. Tracy Potts, Elementary Principal, reported:
•The end of the second nine weeks is Friday, January 12 with no school on Monday, January 15th.
•We will be doing our second round of DIBELS testing on Thursday and Friday.
•As an AR behavior reward, 75 students in grades 3-5 will be going to the Shannon Theatre in Bluffton to watch the movie ​Wonder.

February 6, All A’s Recognition at the Girls Basketball Game

Mr. Tim Eding, JH/HS Dean of Students, reported:
•Thank you to the Continental American Legion for donating and hanging American flags recently in the high school building. Classrooms are now reciting the Pledge of Allegiance at the start of each school day.
•The painting in the middle hallway was done over break. There is still some trim work being done and new classroom signs should be going up soon.
•Semester exams are scheduled for Thursday (periods 1-4) and Friday (periods 5-8).
•The end of the second quarter/first semester is Friday, January 12. Grade cards should be published in ProgressBook by next Friday.
•There is no school on Monday, January 15 in observance of Martin Luther King Day.
•The annual CC+ meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 17 at 6:30 p.m. in the media center.
•Vantage will be here to talk to our sophomores about their programs and the application process tomorrow (Wednesday). The sophomores will then travel to Vantage to tour labs on the afternoon of February 2.
•All A’s Recognition is scheduled for Tuesday, February 6 during the girls basketball game vs. Wayne Trace. High School awards will be presented at JV halftime; elementary awards will be presented at varsity halftime.
•The Homecoming game will be held Friday, February 9 vs. Ottoville and the dance will be on Saturday, February 10.
•Senior games: Girls basketball is February 15 vs. Kalida Boys Basketball/Cheer is February 17 vs. Tinora. Treasurer’s Report: The Board:
•Approved the FY 2018 Alternative Tax Budget as required by the Putnam County Auditor.

•January is School Board Recognition Month. Our school children benefit every day from your dedication and commitment to public education. On behalf of the students, staff, and administration at Continental School, thank you for your service and leadership as a school board member.
•The transportation report was heard.

•Approved $8.30 as the rate of pay per hour for student custodial workers, effective January 1, 2018, due to State of Ohio Minimum Wage increase.
•Approved maternity leave for kindergarten teacher Danielle Stallkamp. Anticipated six-week leave leave will begin approximately March 15, 2018.

•The board went into executive session to discuss the employment of personnel. Time In: 8:00 p.m./Time Out: 8:16 p.m.
