Continental Local School Board of Education Meeting Minutes – May

  • The regular meeting for the Continental School Board was held at 7:00 p.m. on May 16, 2017 in the
    administrative office. The meeting was called to order by the president Dean Bidlack.
    Mrs. Tracy Potts, Elementary Principal, reported:
    -Field Day/Relay for Life will be held on Wednesday, May 24th.
    -The book sale was a big success this year. We collected over $247 for Relay for Life.
    -As an AR reward, students in grades 3-6 will be going to the Grove skating rink on Tuesday, May 23rd from
    12-2:00.
    -Class lists are finished for next school year. Students have met their new teachers.
    -The Elementary Awards Day for students in Grades 3-6 will be Thursday, May 25th at 9:00 a.m.
    -Students met their reading goal during Right to Read Week. You can see the principal covered in silly
    string on Facebook@Continental Elementary.
    -The students enjoyed the Basketball Jim Jones presentation. Thank you to the Parents of Pirates for
    sponsoring this event.
    Mr. Tim Eding, JH/HS Dean of Students, reported:
    -High School students participated in a “Community Cleanup” day on Monday, May 15th. Students did
    various tasks around town and around the school such as painting, washing windows, washing fire trucks,
    repairing park equipment, cleaning up trash, and pulling weeds.
    -The high school academic awards were presented last week. All together, the graduates from the Class of
    2017 earned approximately $595,535 in college scholarships, grants, and financial aid.
    -Vantage will be presenting their Senior Awards on Friday, May 19th at 9:30 a.m. at the Niswonger
    Performing Arts Center in Van Wert.
    -Senior Exams are Monday and Tuesday. Tuesday will be the last day the seniors are required to be in the
    building.
    -JH/HS second semester exams will be next week on Wednesday and Thursday.
    -The last day for students is Thursday, May 25th. Teacher workday is Friday, May 26th.
    -Graduation practice is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on Friday, May 26th. Seniors must attend practice in order
    to participate in the ceremony. The graduation ceremony will be Sunday, May 28th at 2:30 p.m. in the
    gymnasium.
    Athletic Update:
    -The softball team has advanced to Districts. They will play Antwerp at Elida on Wednesday, May 17th.
    -District track begins on Thursday, May 18th at Archbold. District track finals are Saturday. Anyone
    advancing to Regionals will participate next Wednesday and Friday at Tiffin.
    -The spring sports awards will be presented on Monday, May 22nd at 6:30 p.m. in the Casteel Auditorium.
    Treasurer’s Report:
    The Board:
    •Approved a return advance from the Cafeteria Fund (006) to the General Fund (001) for $3,371.25.
    •Approved the five-year forecast.
    •Approved a three-year agreement with the Putnam County Consortium for the purchase of OdysseyWare licenses
    (school years 2017-2018, 2018-2019, and 2019-2020).
    •Approved a contract with PT Services Rehabilitation, Inc for to provide athletic training services for the
    2017-2018 school year.
    •Approved a three-year agreement with Northwest Ohio Area Computer Services Cooperative for computer services,
    effective July 1, 2017 thru June 30, 2020.
    •Approved a membership agreement with NWOET (Northwest Ohio Educational Technology) for services for school
    year 2017-2018.
    •Approved the following donation:
    $300 from the Blue and Gold Club to the Varsity Girls Softball Program.
    Superintendent’s Report:
    The transportation report was heard.
