Friday night Continental hosted Ottoville in a Putnam County League Boys Basketball game that served as backdrop to the Homecoming festivities. A pair of Varsity Basketball players were crowned King and Queen, as Girls Varsity member Kaitlyn Alvarado was crowned Queen and Boys Varsity Basketball member Caleb Olds was crowned King. The Homecoming dance was held on Saturday night.
Following the coronation a basketball game broke out. Jarret Keck put the Pirates on the board as he made the first basket during King Olds rule. The Big Green came back and hit a 3 to make it 3-2 Ottoville. Olds matched that 3 which was followed by a Big Green basket to make it 5 all. The teams traded points as Nick States made a 3 point play and the Big Green hit a 3. An Olds 3 for the Pirates was matched with another 3 from Ottoville to tie the game at 11. A 3 by Pirate Mitchell Coleman gave the Pirates a 14-11 point lead only to see the Big Green go on a 4 point run to regain the lead 15-14. A pair of Olds baskets was sandwiched between a Big Green basket made it 18-17 Pirate. The Big Green hit a 3 for their final points of the quarter while the Pirates put in the last 4 (baskets by Olds and Alex Hale) to make it Pirates 22, Big Green 20 after 1.
The Pirates extended their run to 6 as Chris Potts opened up the second quarter scoring. A 10 point Big Green run was stopped when the Potts made pair of free throws; Big Green 30, Pirates 26. The Big Green and Pirates then split the next 8 points as Pirates States and Keck both put in a pair of free throws Big Green 34, Pirates 30. A Big Green 3 finished the scoring for the half. Big Green 37, Pirates 30 at half.
After a spirited halftime show featuring the Junior High Cheerleaders doing their dance routine, action resumed with the Big Green opening up the scoring with a basket. States put one in for the Pirates to make it 39-32 Big Green. But it was the Big Green the rest of the quarter as a they put in 11 more points to a lone Coleman 3. Big Green 50, Pirates 35 after 3. The Big Green outpointed the Pirates 15-9 in the fourth to make it a 65-44 Ottoville final.
Caleb Olds led the Pirates with 12 points while Mitchell Coleman added 11. Nick States put in 7, Chris Potts and Jarret Keck 4 each, and Christian Keller, Alex Hale and Tarron Bulter 2 each. Coleman put in three 3 point shots while Olds put in 2.
Continental falls to 1-17, 0-5 PCL and will go to Kalida on Friday for another PCL matchup. Ottoville improves to 14-5, 3-3 PCL. Continental won the Junior Varsity game 42-40 in overtime.
